What Is the Hospital Residency Program?

Are you a high school junior thinking about a career in healthcare? Do you want real-world experience in a hospital setting before you graduate? Rice Community Health is excited to offer an incredible opportunity for students entering their senior year this fall — a Hospital Residency Program designed to provide a hands-on look into the medical field.

This six-week summer program gives students the chance to shadow healthcare professionals, observe patient care, and explore different medical specialties — all within a supportive, real-world environment.

From surgery to radiology, respiratory therapy to rural health, students will rotate through a variety of departments, including

  • Nursing
  • Radiology
  • Rehab
  • Surgery
  • Respiratory Therapy
  • Information Systems
  • Lab
  • Dietary
  • Environmental Services
  • Central Supply
  • Health Information Management
  • Community Health Workers
  • Lyons Family Care
  • Sterling Family Care
  • And more!

One standout student will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship based on their end-of-program presentation.

Who Can Apply: Current high school juniors entering 12th grade

Requirements: Strong interest in healthcare, professionalism, and confidential

Duration: 6 weeks, 8-hour days

Dates:

June 3–5, 10–12, 17–19, 24–26

July 8–10, 15–17

Location: Rice Community Hospital, Lyons Family Care, and Sterling Family Care

Attendance: Must attend at least 90% (16 days) of the program
