Much like a skilled nursing facility, our 24-hour Swing Bed program offers assistance to patients who are prepared to transition from acute care but still require support as they’re not fully recovered or strong enough to go home yet.

During a qualified Skilled Swing Bed stay at Rice Community Hospital, patients have access to a comprehensive range of services tailored to their needs, such as:

  • In-house physical, occupational, speech and respiratory therapy
  • In-house laboratory, X-Ray/CT scan and ultrasound
  • Post-surgical recovery
  • Long-term IV antibiotic therapy
  • Rehabilitation after a stroke
  • Patients recovering from an accident or injury
  • Complex wound care
  • Nutritional counseling

Healing Close to Home

The eligibility criteria for the Swing Bed program are established by Medicare. To be considered a candidate, a patient must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Covered by Medicare Part A
  • Patients who have recently undergone a consecutive 3-day acute stay at a hospital within the past 30 days
  • Patient must have an ongoing need(s) that requires skilled care as defined by Medicare
  • Note: Some private insurance plans cover Swing Bed care.

Our Swing Bed program gives patients a cozy and private place to recover. Rooms are calm and come with nice extras like private bathrooms with whirlpool baths. Our dedicated staff, alongside our certified activity director, extends compassionate support while ensuring residents are engaged with a myriad of activities. From monthly pizza parties to birthday celebrations and festive holiday gatherings, we keep spirits high and hearts full.

After reaching their therapy and rehab goals, our swing bed patients get to go home feeling stronger and healthier, making the transition home easier for patients and their families.
